competition at this year's Africa In Motion, Edinburgh’s African film
festival. The profile of the festival has grown steadily since the inaugural
season in 2006, as was affirmed by a prestigious international award
it received earlier this year. We are very excited to be involved in
celebrating the fifth anniversary of Africa in Motion which runs from

The winning film for this year’s edition of the Edinburgh Africa in
Motion short film competition held in October, was South African Paul
Emmanuel’s 3SAI A Rite of Passage. In this silent and visually stunning
documentary, the viewer is challenged to empathise with fresh recruits
at the 3SAI military base while their obligatory hair shave changes
them irrevocably. The prize money awarded to the winning film was partially
sponsored by the African Movie Channel...

Tunde Kelani is Africa’s leading filmmaker. His films are not only
smash hits at home, but also receive acclaim worldwide. His recent film,
The Narrow Path, based on the popular novel “The Virgin” by Bayo Adebowale,
tells the story of Awero, a young village girl who chooses between suitors
- the clumsy hunter Odejimi and the effete rich man Lapade, but a haunting
experience, expectations of family and culture turn her wedding night
into a nightmare. Storm clouds gather as she is forced to walk a thin
line between honor and shame, carrying the resourcefulness of African
womanhood and the fate of communities in a fragile balance.

system design to playout and content aggregation. Content from a variety
of sources, including Sony, Time Warner and the African Movie Channel,
undergoes basic editing, quality control, technical correction and normalisation

African movie channel launched in UK

Living in the UK, TV viewers can now consume African movies on a 24-hour
basis. Lola Onigbogi, director of the newly launched African Movie Channel,
holds that there is a "endless" market for African productions
in Britain, in particular among African immigrants. Most of the films
available on-demand are "Nollywood" productions, from Nigeria's
large movie industry.
